Ōtsuki recorded this narrative of 16 Japanese seamen who were carried by storm to the Aleutians in 1793, and reached St. Petersburg via Siberia; in 1804 four returned to Japan, the first Japanese to circle the globe (see also Beans 1805.2-4). |
