Dear Sir,
Referring to our conversation respecting British Columbian
apples, the prospects are most favourable, especially taking
into consideration the fact that the varieties which do not
suit the English market are those which are most appreciated
both in America and in Canada. We are satisfied that shipments
to this country will ultimately occupy a foremost position,
The varieties that we especially recommend for the
English market are Cox1s Orange Pippins, Newtown pippins,
Spitzenb'ergs and Jonathans. There are also many other red
varieties that are much appreciated on your side, but these 3
or 4 kinds are hard apples and stand the carriage well.
In growing apples for the English market, you must always bear
in mind that Newtown Pippins, Cox's Orange Pippins and Spitz-
-enbergs are the 3 varieties which will bring the highest
prices here. We do not need to mention that directly quantities
with you become larger than can be consumed on your side, it
would be judicious to try the English markets, and before another
season comes round, we shall be very pleased to advise you
as regards prospects.
Whilst navigation at Montreal is open, we have our own
office there, and, as explained, we woxild take the necessary
steps so as to take charge of your carloads as they arrive and
ship them across with all speed. When Montreal is closed,
then the "personnel" of the office remove to Portland (Maine).
We enclose proforma account sales herewith.
We
for the
to give
to that
need hardly remind you that we are the official brokers
British Columbian Government, and you may rely on us
the same attention to any fruit you may ship as we give
of the Government
Yours faithfully,
*
