Phil Lind Klondike Gold Rush Collection

[Various views of Yukon; Alaska; Victoria, B.C.; portraits of Indigenous peoples, miners, children] Ward, James

Description

This album was created by James Ward, a partner in Ward, Hough and Company, a provisioning store in Dawson that operated from May to July 1900. Ward and English miner Joseph Hough, along with others, travelled throughout the Klondike in search of gold. The album’s candid and intimate photographs capture their journey, especially their interest in Reindeer Creek. The photographs also document Ward’s stopover in Victoria, BC, along with his return to his family in the village of Rye, New York.
