Phil Lind Klondike Gold Rush Collection

[Klondike photograph album] Hegg, Eric A., 1867-1948

Description

A celebrated Swedish-American photographer based in Washington, Eric A. Hegg joined the 1897 stampeders heading to the Klondike. He hired photographer P.E. Larss to help him document the arduous journeys of those taking the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails over the mountains, as well as their river journeys down the Klondike. He had a travelling darkroom built inside the bow of a small boat designed for his travels. Hegg's album includes the travel scenes and portraits taken at the height of the Rush in 1898.
