UBC students Paul Treschow and Ray Clark transcribed the Latin text of the Logroño Antiphonary and compiled English translations under the supervision of Dr. C.W. Marshall, Professor of Greek in the department of Classical, Near Eastern, and Religious Studies and UBC Library project manager Robert Stibravy, with the assistance of Canon Douglas Williams of Christ Church Anglican Cathedral in Vancouver, BC. The manuscript consists primarily of psalms and hymns for choral use, organized according to service. The Latin and English texts have been presented together for ease of reference.
Provenance identified as Spanish, from Logroño, the largest city in the Rioja area of Spain. Date uncertain; possibly 1575-1625. The text is set for monophonic chant for choir. The music consists of hymns, psalms and other chants and is written in square square Gregorian notation on a five-line staff. |
