Notes |
Caption on back: "The log dump near the mouth of the Franklin River was first set up in 1934 when the Division's first logging camp was established near this site. Train are unloaded by a "jill poke" which pushes the load off the cars as it revolves while the train is backing past it. A full load of about 35 cars can be dumped in 10 minutes to 20 minutes by the jill poke. Logs dumped here are sorted, rafted, and towed to Port Alberni for use by MacMillan and Bloedel's integrated converting mills (lumber, plywood, pulp, paper) there.
