Notes | Photographs formed part of an album entitled "MacMillan and Bloedel Limited Logging and Mill, 1940-1950's." Picture caption: Tense moment arrives when spar tree is being lifted. Butt end of tree is secured by wire-rope to prevent its slipping off log mat upon which it will sit for several months. This is trickiest part of spar raising, and only sounds heard are terse instructions from head rigger Jim Hunter to goat operator Radu, and low growl of winch lifting spar steadily and firmly. For photograph of Radu, see BC_1930_345_38. |
