Notes |
Caption on back: "This huge steam skidder is finishing out its days at MacMillan and Bloedel's Frankliln River Division on Vancouver Island. These old "steam pots" were an economical means of logging large areas in one "setting". With this type of skidder, logs could be yarded long distances to a central point from steep hillsides, over canyons, and other difficult terrain. Modern logging practices place more emphasis on logging small patches, more practical with a truck and road system.
