[Malvina Goudron hardware] Devine, Harry

Description

Image of a horse rider adorned in front of the Malcina Goudron hardware shop.
The caption on margin is written by the major, Jame Skitt Matthews (J.S.M.), who was appointed as City Archivst of the City of Vancouver Archives in 1933.
His handwritten annotation on recto reads, "Presented, 18 Nov. 1949, by Mrs. Thomas McGirr, 2332 W. 47th. See C.V.Bu.N.218.P.344. Baptist Church, 1887. Westminster Ave, now Main Street. 432 Main Street. Lot 7, Blk 11, D.L.196. The upper floor was, originally, the first Baptist Church in Vancouver. When the new church was built at Hamilton and Dunsmuir, the building was moved forward from back of lot to street line, then raised and this hardware store built under it. The door on right leads to a hall upstairs where the original platform at one end remained. In 1906 the store was occupied by the hardware firm of Lewis & Sills. It was demolished about 1940. Wood blank sidewalk dirt road; bushes on vacant lot. The rider of pony is doing a queer advertising performance by hanging whips, brushes, tinware, birdcage and tools all over himself & horse. City Achives. J.S.M."
Mrs. Thomas McGirr dontaed this photo to the City of Vancouver Archives in 1949.
Title taken from recto.
