Construction of Big Bend Highway (West Leg)

The album documents the construction of the so-called ‘Big Bend’ Highway (West Leg) north of Revelstoke, B.C., now a part of Highway 23, between 1934 and 1936. The photos consist of scenery along the way, work being completed, machinery, bridges, landslides, workers camps, and photos of F.W. Anderson and other workers, as well as photos of two separate car accidents, and of a ‘snow slide’ at Clanwilliam Camp, and of the ‘West Coast Trail’ on Vancouver Island. After the bulk of the photos there is a blank page and then a new grouping of images with a title page that reads, “Odd Snaps Collected by F.W.A. While Foreman & Asst. Engr. Group F. D.N.D.-U.E.R. Big Bend Highway Group H.Q. at Revelstoke B.C. Sept 20/34 to Mar 20/35”.
