Ogura hyakunin isshu [unknown]

Description

Set consists of 100 poems from the poetry anthology Hyakunin Isshu (One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each) in hand-drawn characters, on 100 pairs of cards. The first card in the pair carries the first half of the poem, and the second card carries the second half. These cards are played as a traditional Japanese game known as uta-garuta. In this set, hand-written by 柳原方光 (1641-1657), Dainagon Yanagiwara Sukeyuki's son, the first card also carries the name of the poet and has the poetic theme illustrated in the background.
