Florence Nightingale Letters

[Letter, Baron Francis Knollys to L.H. Shore Nightingale, December 3, 1907] Knollys, Francis, 1837-1924

Description

Suggests that Colonel Sir Douglas Dawson could deliver the insignia of the Order of Merit to Florence Nightingale's home at South Street, where L.H. Shore Nightingale could receive it for Florence Nightingale, who was not well enough to receive it in person. Note on envelope by Rosalind Nash calls attention to Sir Douglas Dawson's error in his autobiography in which he describes presenting the Order to Florence Nightingale personally. Nash goes on to mention discussion with Sir Douglas and his wife about this mistake, his being upset, and all agreeing to leave the situation as it was.
