Thanks her for her account of "Campbell's 2d lecture", and goes on to discuss it. Mentions minor literary errors in Miss S.'s letter. Discusses Johnson and Rowe on Shakespeare and mentions her own fondness for farce, particularly one called "The Dying Lovers". Further literary remarks. Bonars have endured a "horrid event". Other news of family and mutual friends. Her father is "rather better lately". Her own health is not robust.
