C46 Corphaena hippurus (Tank 6) (1); C40 Lobotes pacificus (Tank 5) (1); C49 Lutianus sp. [handwritten note] NMC (1); C48 Euthynnus lineatus [handwritten note] NMC (3); A sand beach extends as far as you can see in both directions and a great surf lashes it everywhere except directly opposite our anchorage. There are three thatched sheds at this calm stretch of beach and a number of unpainted dugout canoes pulled up out of reach of the water. There are evidences of fish everywhere. Needlefish, sharks, jacks, manta rags and others have been seen at the surface. Mr. Stevenson and I went trolling and caught 4 Caranx caninus ranging in sixe from 1 1/2 to 16 pounds. They are great fighters and struggle furiously until gaffed. Also caught were sierra, and black skipjacks. [paragraph break] During the night a huge hammerhead shark took a baited hook at the stern of the Marijean. It was Sphyrna tudes. Total length: 10'4 i/2", width of head: 28", height of dorsal: 19", circumpherence [sic] of belly: 48 1/2", weight: 360 pounds; Black skipjacks saved; Al Mowat caught a tripletail and snapper which are included here.
