UBC Institute of Fisheries Field Record B.C. 81-49b

Description

The mid-depth community existed over a sand-mud bottom and the most offshore community inhabited sand-mud and coral block (dead & eroded) substrate. The bottom was homogeneous at each depth range except offshore where broken shell bottoms graded into patches of coral block or sand. The inshore waters were generally murky green. At depths greater than 20 fathoms water was clear blue. Water colour onshore of 20 fathoms changed with winds & tides. For further details of sampling, fish communities, & environment refer to the consultant's report "Rainy Season Bycatch of the Guyanese Prawn Fishery" prepared for the International Development Research Centre and on file with the museum.
