Nepal: Peace Postponed International Crisis Group
Asia Briefing N°72.
Comments on the uncertain future of the Nepalese peace process, pointing to a lack of will to fully implement the November 2006 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The author looks at the development of the peace process with a focus on the postponement of the Constituent Assembly elections, assesses the viability of the basic political consensus and outlines available alternatives. Subsequently, the paper identifies measures necessary to advance the peace process and examines the role of the international community. It argues that Nepal's peace process can still succeed.
