Phil Lind Klondike Gold Rush Collection
[Various scenes of Yukon; Nome, Alaska; and the San Francisco Fire] [unknown]
Description
While the creator of this handmade album is unknown, the contents provide a personal perspective on a traveller’s journey through Alaska and Yukon in 1903. Travelling aboard ocean-going ships, the White Pass Railway, and various riverboats, the traveller took snapshots along the way and wrote descriptive captions for them. The photographs form a valuable visual record of the many settlements that were built during the late 19th- and early 20th-century gold rushes in Alaska and Yukon, including Sitka, Fort Seward, Skagway, Dawson, Circle City, Fort Yukon, Anvik, Nome, and Unalaska. The album ends with photographs of the San Francisco fire of 1906.
