MEMORANDUM
RE: PURCHASE OF LST VESSEL "ARL 10" FOR CARRIAGE
OF TRUCKS AND TRAILERS BETWEEN VANCOUVER AND SIDNEY,
B.C.
To handle the increased truck and trailer traffic between Vancouver
and the southern end of Vancouver Island it is proposed to establish a
regular service between Vancouver and Sidney, located on Saanich Peninsula
fifteen miles north of Victoria. The sea distance of this service will be
49 nautical miles*
We have been assured by the B.C. Ferry Authority officials that
our service would be very helpful to them in maintaining won time11
passenger and automobile service between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay. At
the present time a large number of "dead" trailers are offered on this
route and due to the short turn-around time in port of the Government
ferries numerous delays take place in departure, a feature which the ferry
authorities are most anxious to eliminate. Our proposed service
paralleling the B.C. Government service between Vancouver and Saanich
Peninsula would relieve a problem which is becoming increasingly embarrassing for the present services to handle.
We have been guaranteed a minimum of 60 trucks and trailers for the
round trip for a period of five years, %iiichat present rates would give a
return, on present costs of 33.9$ (DCF) on a 20-year economic life basis.
Vancouver, B.C.
