Eastbound Track.
3.—When there is a home signal and a distant signal on the same post, the
former which indicates the condition of the block ahead is placed above
the latter which indicates the condition of the two blocks ahead.
4.—Signal Nor^5 on Westbound track at Montreal Jet., when clear, will
indicate that the block ahead is clear and that all switches in the block
are set for the straight track. Signal No. 17 on the Westbound track
at Montreal Jet., when clear, indicates that train will cross over to the
south track, that cross-over switches are so set, and that south track
is clear to east end of station platform. These signals, which are on
the same post, may be passed when either one stands at "Clear," not
otherwise, unless the train receives hand signal to proceed.
5.—Signal No. 2, on Eastbound track near Guy Street, is controlled from
switchman's shanty, and when cleared will indicate "proceed to the
yard."
6.—Signal No. 24 "A" on Eastbound track East of Strathmore Station is
three position Upper Quadrant Semaphore type. When arm is standing
45 degrees above the horizontal—at night a yellow light will be displayed and will indicate that Eastbound track is unoccupied to Signal
No. 24.
When arm is standing 90 degrees above horizontal—at night a
green light will be displayed and will indicate that Eastbound track
is unoccupied to Signal No. 22.
GLEN YARD INTERLOGKER
7.—Eastbound mechanical home signal at Glen Yard Interlocker standing
opposite Westmount Station is part of the Automatic Block System.
When automatic home signal No. 12 is clear, showing green light at
night, it will indicate that Eastbound track is clear to Eastbound
Home Signal, Glen Yard Interlocker.
When Eastbound Home Signal, Glen Yard Interlocker, is clear it
will indicate that Eastbound track is clear to Automatic Signal No. 10
and switches set for main track.
Automatic Distant Signal No. 12 when at clear will indicate that
Eastbound track Is unoccupied to Automatic Signal No. 8.
8.—Signal 27 "A" on Westbound track East of Cedar Park Station is three
position Upper Quadrant Semaphore type. When arm is standing
45 degrees above horizontal—at night a yellow light will be displayed
and will indicate that the Westbound track is unoccupied to Signal
No. 27. When arm is standing 90 degrees above horizontal—at night
a green light will be displayed and will indicate that Westbound track
is unoccupied to Signal No. 31.
9.—Signal No. 36 when clear will indicate that Eastbound Main Track is unoccupied and switches are set for Main Track through Ste. Annes yard.
10.—Signal No. 39 when clear will indicate that Westbound track is unoccupied
to M.P. 19.
AT WESTERN JUNCTION.
1 1.—Signal No. 21 situated at mileage 1.18 Smiths Falls Sub-division governs
trains eoming out from South Junction to Westbound track and will
indicate clear when branch and cross-over switches are set for this
route providing there is no train between Signal No. 20 and 300
feet east of Signal No. 21 and no train between Signal No. 19 and
slotted home Signal No. 31.
12 .-—Trains requiring to use above route must be governed by indicators.
13.—Slotted Home Signals No. 31 and 29, located 550 feet East of Western
Junction, and Nos. 2 and 3. located 600 feet West of Western Junction
are governed by Interlocking Rules.
15.
-Trainmen must be sure to set brakes in siding beyond the wooden fishplates and back of the safety blocks, as otherwise the signal for that
block will not clear for an approaching train.
-Conductors must report by wire to the Superintendent from the first
telegraph station all delays caused by signals, giving the number of
the signal and cause if known, as per form No. 373. Engineers must
at the end of their run fill out a blank report card, Form No. 373a, for
each stop they have been obliged to make by reason of the Signal
System, and send such reports to the Superintendent. Track Foremen
and other employees will also report promptly by wire any defect
noticed in the signals, wire or other appurtenances of this system.
16.—Trackmen must not make any change in track which will interfere with
the Signal System without notifying Signal Inspector and, except
i n case of emergency, receiving his consent.
17.—A semaphore type automatic block signal is equipped with marker
light. This light shows lunar white at night and is placed 6 feet
below and on opposite side of mast from the signal light. This
marker light is for the purpose of distinguishing at night an automatic block signal from a positive stop signal. The distinction for
day being the shape of the signal arm which has a pointed end.
The use of the three position Upper Quadrant Automatic Signal is
authorized by Circular No. 22 issued by the General Superintendent
of Transportation.

Rai3 Junction.

No.
All trains will approach and pass through Windsor Street
Westmount, Outremont, Mile End, Hochelaga and Place Viger
Yards prepared to stop, unless the main track is seen or known to
be clear
 SPECIAL RULES
11
A.—At meeting points not fixed by train order at which there is no open telegraph office,
and at which they do not stop, second and third class trains running in sections must give
identification tickets (Form 1432) to all extra trains and to all second and third class trains over
which they have the right to track by class or direction. Such latter trains must receive such
identification tickets or stop the other train to ascertain its identity. Observe Rule 90.
B.—Between the hours of 8.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m. at all open telegraph offices, trains (except
first class and passenger extras) must receive a clearance from the operator, whether the signal
indicates M stop " or ■* proceed.'' If there are no " 31 " orders oh hand for delivery to any train
in the direction as indicated by the approaching train, operators are required to have clearance
ready so engineer and conductor may secure it while passing at slow speed.
C—Employees must not ride on top of cars passing under overhead bridges or through
tunnels at which there is not sufficient clearance.
D.-—At a safe distance before commencing the descent of steep grades and approaching
railway crossings at grade, junctions, drawbridges, and at points where trains are to be met and
passed, and where at any other point failure of brakes would be attended with hazard, brakemen
must be on the rear car of each train within convenient access of conductor's valve, and if train
is exceeding authorized speed limit, brakes must be applied by him at once in accordance with
Rule 6, Page 4, Air Brake Rules.
E.—The outer main track switches of passing tracks will be considered " station limits "
and main track may be used inside of such limits by keeping clear of first and second class trains. I
All trains except first and second class trains must, unless otherwise directed, approach and pass
through such limits, prepared to stop unless the main track is seen to be clear. Trains occupying
or using main track outside of station limits must be protected unless train orders or schedule
confer the right to use main track. During foggy, smoky or stormy weather protection as per
Rule 99 must, in addition, be maintained to ensure absolute safety.
F.—Those employed on sub-divisions that are double tracked are in every instance when
stepping out of the way of approaching trains, to move to the right of way, and not to the other
track. Foremen will be personally responsible for educating their men to this.
G.—-Snow plows working on double track when passing trains on the other track must not
be run at a speed exceeding ten miles per hour, and points must be lifted and wings closed.
Flangers must also be lifted when passing trains on the other track.
H.—Trains using crossovers on double track must not be run over switches at a speed
exceeding fifteen miles per hour.
I.— Trains handling the auxiliary steam crane must not exceed a speed of 35 miles per hour;
on level track and up grades, and not exceed a speed of 20 miles per hour on down grades, or jn
Branch lines. Speed must in all cases be regulated to safety limit going around curves.
