ancouver. Calgary. Moose Jaw and Winnipeg—Good Meals, Light refres
eskRknts a!" popular PRICl Canadian Indian
The strong character evidenced in Nina Crumrine's
portrait of this dignified member of the Stoney Tribe
typifies the Indians encountered by visitors to the
Canadian Rockies.
Throughout the Canadian Pacific holiday area—
which includes Banff Springs Hotel, Chateau Lake
Louise, Emerald Lake and the mountain lodges at
Wapta, Yoho, Moraine Lake and Lake O'Hara—
place names, such as Sun Dance Canyon, Lake
Minnewanka, Takakkaw Falls, are reminders of the
days when the tribes roamed at will.
Now, from their Reservation at Morley, Alta., the
Stoneys ride 40 miles to Banff each July to hold
their tribal sports. "Indian Days at Banff", when
chiefs, braves, squaws, and even papooses wear their
traditional colourful clothes, attracts artists, historians
and tourists. . Each day is packed with interesting
parades, chuck-waggon races, roping and riding
contests and other displays of skill.
