*.-, • One hundred years ago an important milestone in Canadian Postcard
history was reached with the completion of a rail link from Carte postale
coast to coast.
In this famous photograph, Donald A. Smith, a director of the
Canadian Pacific Railway, drives the last spike of the CPR
transcontinental line on 7 November 1885. Behind him are
William Van Home, vice-president, and Sandford Fleming,
former chief engineer in charge of surveying.

Un important jalon de I'histoire canadienne a ete franchi, il y
a cent ans, par I'achevement du chemin de fer reliant un
ocean a I'autre.
Sur cette photographie celebre, Donald A. Smith, un directeur
du Canadian Pacific Railway, enfonce le dernier crampon de
la ligne transcontinentale du CPR le 7 novembre 1885. Derriere
lui on peut voir William Van Home, le vice-president, et
Sandford Fleming, I'ancien ingenieur et arpenteur en chef.
