Tke lull title of Canada's famous scarlet coated federal police force is "Tne Royal Canadian
Mounted Police". Formed to patrol the western plains in Canada's earliest days, constables
were armed witk carbines and lances, tne force was known as tne Nortk West Mounted
Police. Later Queen Victoria raised its status to Royal Nortk West Mounted Police. Today's
title was given to tke force wken its jurisdiction was enlarged to include tke wkole of Canada.
