Nortb of tbe Canadian Pacific main line and visible from tbe bigbway tbat links Banff and
Lake Louise is a migbty monument. Known for many years as Castle Mountain, eigbt
miles long and 9,890 feet at its bigbest peak, tbis towering landmark was renamed as Canada's
tribute to General of tbe Armies Dwigbt D. Eisenbower, G.C.B., some years before bis
election as President. Just as tbe likeness of tbe up-tbrust peak to tbe turrets and battlements
of medieval military arcbitecture led to its original name, tbe four-square rugged quality
of tbe great mountain inevitably suggested itself as a fitting emblem of tbe great military leader
and President of tbe United States tbe people of Canada wisbed to bonour.
