Dear Sirs
She statements of revenue and disbursements for the first
four voyages of our "Yukon Prinoess" which were aooepted by the
Frank Waterhouse and Company of Canada Limited, you will observe,
show a net operating profit of $21,916.08,while statements
originally submitted by your company Covering the operation of
the "Cassiar*1 for the first four voyages indicated a net loss of
#lo,3ol*07.
We have subsequently received an amended statement from
the frank Waterhouse and Company of Canada which credited certain
items and consequently reduced the net losa to $7,999.06.
fhe Travelling Auditor,Vancouver,who has completed his
examination of your books covering the first four voyages of the
"Cassiar" has submitted statements as per copies attached. These
statement* indicate that certain items have been shown for ?/hich
he cannot find substantiating entries in your ledger. You will
also note that many of the items differ in his statements from
those shown in your records*
Supervision on certain items haa been shown, whereas in
the case of the operation of the "Yukon Prinoess" w© have not
shown similar charges*
Interest on pallet boards for the first four voyages
was assessed on the basis of 5% for each month, Instead of 5%
per year*

On November 8th, 1951, 1 suggested that Mr. F. Davies be
officially appointed as joint accountant to take over the
necessary statements resulting from the joint operation of the
"Yukon Prinoess" aad the "Cassiar". It was felt that in view of his
experience and by having the one accountant loo0£after the o o

preparaiion at statements covering the two ships we would have
statements made on identically the same basis with corresponding
charges*  Xt would appear from the attached statements made up
by Mr* Hills that the charges are not being compiled in a similar
maimer*  In order to have the same results for the two vessels
which are operating in the same service* I am sure you will agree
that it is most important that the statements be compiled on a
similar basis* I would, therefore, suggest that Mr* Davies be
appointed to look after this work and I hope that you will concur
in m*y  recommendation*  In order to have this matter straightened
out I hope that you can have Mr* Davies appointed as soon as
possible.
In the meantime to enable our travelling Auditor to
compile similar statements of revenue  and disbursements covering
the first four voyages of the "Cassiar* for submission to our Audit
Department in Montreal* I shall be pleased to know if these
statements as prepared by Mr* Mills are acceptable to you*
