A CANADIAN PACIFIC HOTEL
A CANADIAN PACIFIC HOTEL Nine-hole putting green
in the Empress Gardens
The Empress Hotel, one of the Pacific Coast's most charming hotels, is situated in a beautiful garden that fronts on the
placid waters of Victoria's Inner Harbor. It is of fireproof construction throughout, and its large public and private rooms
are the ultimate in comfort and good taste.
The Empress has many attractions, including ... 570 commodious rooms, majority with bath; Crystal Ball Room,
public and private dining rooms, Tudor Grill Room, and ample facilities for conventions. Unique features are: the Conservatory, with its fountain playing amid masses of exotic blooms; and the nearby Crystal Garden, with its glass-enclosed
swimming pool, palm-bordered promenades, warm salt-water bathing, Turkish and steam baths, hot sea-water baths, Swedish
and electric massage.
Visitors to the Empress Hotel invariably comment upon the charm of its gardens, which are among the best of their kind
in Canada. Lawns of velvety smoothness, and verdant freshness flank the rose garden, a delightful retreat where rare specimens lift their showy heads and the more prolific climbers entwine the pergolas and arbors. Beautiful old trees offer shady
nooks wherein to enjoy the fragrant surroundings or watch the players on the nine-hole putting green or on the tennis courts.
On the other side of the hotel is a rock garden where Alpine and other creeping plants nestle in the shade of a lily pond which
reflects the graceful fronds of the willows in its mirrored surface.
Holiday at the Empress Hotel! A joyous welcome always awaits you: whether your vacation be during the ideal spring,
summer or autumn seasons; for the Old English Yuletide Festivities over Christmas-New Year; or to enter in the Annual Winter
Golf Tournament held in March on a picturesque golf course for the Sir Edward Beatty Challenge Cup. During the tournament
gala dinner dancing and entertainment hold sway at the Empress, and are climaxed by the presentation of prizes at a Grand
Ball on the closing night. The Vancouver Island Spring Festival is held at Victoria in May under the auspices of the Vancouver
Island Horticultural Society. The programme includes a flower festival, decorative table displays, special lectures at the
Empress Hotel, and the opening of many of Victoria's exclusive gardens.

"Follow the birds" to Victoria, in Canada's Evergreen Playground ... on the southern tip of Vancouver
Island. Here is every vacation appeal—climate and recreation, in an ideal setting. Tempered by mild
ocean breezes and the warm Japanese Current rolling onward from Asia, the climate of Victoria is subject
neither to extremes of heat nor cold . . . sometimes roses bloom at Christmas! Victoria's charming English
beauty is heightened by Little Saanich Mountain and the blue-tinted Sooke Hills. Here, bathed in
glorious sunshine, golf is played throughout the year on beautiful sporting courses, and other so-called
summer sports are really year-round pursuits. The other recreational attractions include: tennis, riding,
hiking, motoring along splendid roads amid majestic scenery, motor-boating, canoeing, fine bathing,
adventurous mountain climbing, steamer excursions through inland and coastal waterways, and finally,
fishing and hunting in the fishing waters and game haunts to which Victoria is the natural gateway.
To add to the appeal of this delightful region, reduced transportation rates are authorized from many
points—ask your nearest ticket agent. Then, too, excellent hotel accommodation is available at rates
