.ftVft-Mft From the stately Crystal
Ballroom to the friendly air-
conditioned Selkirk Lounge,
the public rooms of Royal
Alexandra keynote the expansive
comfort of Winnipeg's traditional
hotel. Private accommodation ...
450 rooms, many with television . . .
emphasizes the spacious, gracious
motif. Cuisine in the air-conditioned
Selkirk Room and Selkirk Lounge surpasses
even Canadian Pacific standards. "~~~"-"1*—•■«»„H»
Whether the feature is the fabulous "gold-eye", caught
only in Lake Winnibeg, prime Western Canadian beef or
an outstanding example of old-world gastronomy, dining
in the air-conditioned, licensed Selkirk Room is the
highlight of any visit to The Royal Alexandra. «
Table d'hote luncheons are a week-day
feature of the licensed Selkirk Lounge, a
hospitable air-conditioned area that is a
popular meeting place between meals,
too. In atmosphere, in its deep-upholstered furniture as well, this newly decorated room has the attractiveness and
dignity of an exclusive club. Afternoon
tea beside the massive fireplace gives
pleasure to many guests.

Within minutes of the downtown
business, shopping and entertainment areas of Winnipeg, The Royal
Alexandra is connected by a covered
passage with the Canadian Pacific
station for transcontinental trains
and direct connections with Chicago,
Minneapolis and St. Paul. Air and
road networks centre on Winnipeg
from all directions thus adding to
the hotel's convenience for convention, everyday business and vacation

Entertainment Focus of the Great Plains
Winnipeg, crossroad metropolis of Canada's
great plains . . . historic centre of western
development . . . grain market of the world
. . . shipping and travel headquarters of the
prairies, offers many attractions to travellers
. ... whether their journeys are for business or
Modern buildings vie with earlier architecture
as exemplified by Lower Fort Garry, the only
stone fort of the famous fur traders still standing in all North America, and the beautiful
Legislative Building topped by the celebrated
"Golden Boy". The city is bisected by the two
great rivers, the Red and Assiniboine, that
marked the site of the earliest farming settlement; is served by an international airport
really close to The Royal Alexandra and the
downtown area and surrounded by attractive
suburban areas.
Greater Winnipeg encompasses — within easy
reach of the city — Assiniboia Downs, scene of
horse-racing meets; Rainbow Stage, for summer entertainment "under the stars", the Red
River Exhibition grounds, Assiniboine Park
with a conservatory of rare tropical plants and
a fine zoological collection, public and private
golf courses including the St. Charles Golf
Club where Royal Alexandra guests with a
card from the hotel Manager can arrange
games on payment of green fees.
Fine department stores, the Grain Exchange
Civic Auditorium and the Museum of the
Hudson's Bay Company are within strolling
distance of the hotel. Not to be missed by the
sportingly inclined is the Winnipeg stadium,
home ground of the Blue Bombers football
team. Just as the public rooms reflect the
Royal Alexandra policy of space
and comfort... so it is with the
pleasant private accommodation, in
the suites ... in the double and
single rooms ... all with bath or
shower — many with television.
Modern in decoration but reminiscent
of the spacious past with their high
ceilings and genefous windows, the
450 guest rooms are moderately
priced. House-keeping arrangements
maintain high Canadian Pacific
standards and gufest comfort is the
first consideration of the friendly,
efficient staff.
For holiday travellers the Royal
Alexandra is a convenient centre
for daily trips to the beaches at
Gimli, Winnipeg, Grand and Victoria

Bedroom of a
pleasant suite Splendid meeting capacity, the Colonial Room
There's a breezy, western atmosphere about
The Royal Alexandra that guests find an
attractive introduction to the Canadian West.
On week-days (Monday through Friday) a
quick service Continental Breakfast in buffet
style is available in The Lobby. From noon till
two p.m., The Selkirk Lounge is noted for a
special luncheon popular with guests and local
business people. At an inclusive price the
Selkirk Lounge special luncheon — a Royal
Alexandra exclusive — has already become a
Winnipeg institution.
The convention capacity of The Royal Alexandra is
appreciated by organizers who have availed themselves of its facilities. In addition to the more than
adequate public rooms for guest use this popular
convention hotel has five outstanding areas for meetings or banquets. The Alexandra Room seats 700 for
meetings and can serve 600 at a meal. Similar capacities of four other rooms are: Crystal Ballroom and
Banquet Room, each 600 and 450; Colonial Room,
300 and 200 and Tapestry Room, 300 and 200.
Dining Rooms are licensed.
Add to these a staff well experienced in the many
details of convention organization, an easily reached
strategic location in the middle-west and the result is
a logical convention centre.
