OFFICE OF MUNICIPAL HALL
COLLECTOR cor. 43rd and fraser street
  SOUTH VANCOUVER
PHONE FRASER 1
June 25th, 1917.
Dear Sir or Madam : —
I am enclosing herewith notice ot taxes due against your
property.
I would like to draw to your attention that the Reeve and
Council have this year been successful in convincing the Provincial Government of the importance of amending the Municipal
Act, giving the Council the power to allow 10<i discount to
those property owners paying their taxes within the date set
for discount.
I am, therefore, pleased to say that this year all 1917
taxes (except local improvement) are subject to a 10<^0 rebate,
and I trust that you will avail yourself of this liberal discount, as by doing so you will benefit by lower taxes and will
also enable your Reeve and Council to meet the various interest and charges that come due in the near future.
It will be within your recollection that in former years
a discount approximately of only 2|$, of the total taxes was
allowed.
Trusting that you will give this letter your careful consideration.
I am,
Yours faithfully,
A. H. BRERETON,
Collector. P. O. Box IS, Vancouver. B.C. Telephone. Sey. 313

Dear Sir:—
PLEASE COMPLETE THE ENCLOSED PAYROLL RETURN SHOWING
THE TOTAL WAGES PAID BY YOU DURING 1922 TO WORKMEN UNDER
OUR ACT, AND RETURN THE FORM TO US NOT LATER THAN
JANUARY 20th, 1923.
With a view to furthering the mutual interests of employers and workmen of the Province we are
bringing to your attention the following requirements, a compliance with which will assist in avoiding
expense, delays and inconvenience, and make for greater efficiency in administration.
Medical Aid dues, or workmen's contribution, being the one cent per day deduction from the workmen's wages as required by the Act, are payable to the Board quarterly, at the end of March, June,
September and December, without notice from this office.
Employers assessment are payable in accordance with the assessment notices sent out from time
to time. They are based on the total pay-roll expenditure.
The employer, members of his family, or partners are not covered under the Act except by special
application.
Strict observance of the accident prevention regulations will still further reduce the number and cost
of avoidable accidents.
First Aid equipment should be kept up to standard, and be readily accessable at all times. Prompt
use of this service will prevent trifling injuries from developing into costly claims.
When hospital treatment is necessary the employer should immediately have the injured workman
conveyed to the nearest hospital where required treatment is available.
All accidents should be thoroughly investigated by the employer, or responsible official, and his report containing complete and accurate particulars, should be submitted promptly to the Board. Information so supplied is treated as strictly confidential, and if there are reasonable grounds for questioning
any claim there need be no hesitation in stating so. The practice of permitting junior officials to complete employer's reports on accidents is dangerous. A report on your behalf favourable to a claimant
is tantamount to a request to the Board to pay the cost of the accident. The person signing your reports
should be a person whom you would entrust with handling your funds. The cost of claims allowed
fixes absolutely the amount which it is necessary to collect from employers by way of assessments.
We appreciate your past co-operation and trust that we may have a continuance of same

TO THE STOCKHOLDERS:
I am enclosing herewith Financial Report of the
Hirst-Chichagof Mining Company as submitted by Haskins &
Sells, Certified Public Accountants. On examination of
thi3 report you will notice that the Financial condition
of the company is very satisfactory.
Recently, Mr. D. J. Williams, our engineer in
charge at the mine, reports that he is now preparing to
stope ore from the 180 foot level of the Number 1 ore
shoot. The values of the number one ore shoot at this
level are low, but we hope that the values will increase
as the stopes are advanced. Mr. Williams is planning to
further develop our property by drifting along the main
adit with the hopes of finding another ore shoot. The
geological formations along the main adit are very.
encouraging for the making of ore, and we trust that in
the near future we will be able to give you more definite
information concerning this new development work.
Yours very truly,
Lew G. Kay
