[Letter from Ma Dongwen to Ma Jiexiu] Ma, Dongwen


Letter addressed to the writer's father. The writer describes life in Guangdong, China under the Sino-Japanese War and also requests 500 HKD to help him start a business. He also requests for money from his father so that he and his mother can flee to Hong Kong and so that they can clear the debit they owe for his sister's wedding.; 兒子馬冬穩寫給在溫哥華的父親馬解修的信。他在信中提到自己年富力強卻仍賦閑家中,無所作為,萬分慚愧。但自覺在經商上有些天賦,遂請父親寄五百港元作資本。他亦提及日寇侵略,廣州淪陷,五縣相繼失守,四邑咽喉之江門亦危在旦夕。日寇漢奸軍伐土匪橫行, 民不聊生。他欲與母親逃往香港, 但路資不足,加之妹妹出嫁所欠債務,請父親匯錢資助。
