CCS - Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association
The Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association (KCCA) Collection is a 60 item collection based on the histories of five Kamloops and British Columbia families: Dang, Kong, Lee, Lim, and Marr.
Through written and photographic collections, KCCA published the intriguing 150 year history of the hundreds of pioneer Chinese families in Kamloops and the central interior of British Columbia and the impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act and Head Tax on this vibrant community. The goal is to educate the public and future generations about the sacrifices and accomplishments of these Chinese workers, their perseverance through the Fraser River Gold Rush and construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway line and their continuous contributions to the development of British Columbia despite the challenges of the Chinese Exclusion Act and Head Tax. The digitized Kamloops stories will describe the monumental challenges and invaluable achievements of the Chinese pioneers in order to create an educational resource for researchers and future generations and to ensure the safekeeping of this segment of Chinese Canadian history. The digitized collection is donated by KCCA and hosted for public access in Open Collections. Learn more about KCCA digital collections here.
