CCS - INSTRCC
The INSTRCC (Initiative for Student Teaching and Research in Chinese Canadian studies) Collection contains 54 videos that tell the stories and histories of Asian Canadians. While most of the videos focus on the life of Vancouver residents, stories about the residents' lives before they moved to Vancouver and accounts of life in other Canadian cities also make up part of the collection. The oral histories are hosted in Open Collections.
INSTRCC at the University of British Columbia (UBC) was created to engage and empower students to conduct crucial and groundbreaking community-based research in Asian Canadian history relevant to the Asian Canadian community. In addition, INSTRCC seeks to give a voice to the stories and histories of Asian Canadians, their families, and their communities so future generations of Canadians and Asian Canadians will be aware of the rich and complex stories that make up integral aspects of Canadian history and identity. A key component of the INSTRCC program is to put the latest in digital video technology in the hands of students so that they can do research and tell accessible stories that reach far beyond the borders of UBC's Point Grey campus.
