CCS - Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society
The Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society Collection includes 244 items that preserve, document and celebrate the role of Chinese Canadian veterans in the service of Canada's military. The Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society (CCMMS) of Vancouver, British Columbia completed the project entitled, 'Loyalty despite Legislated Restrictions: Chinese Canadian Veteran History.' The goal of the project was to create an exhibition illustrating the impacts of the Head Tax, Exclusion Act and discrimination against Chinese-Canadian war veterans and their families. CCMMS conducted research and interviews with 27 veterans to document their histories. The resulting exhibition and accompanying booklet included collected photographs, head tax papers and other documentation, medals, military uniforms and other artifacts. The digitized photos and interviews are in Open Collections, while the physical photographs and interviews are in Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society. Learn more about the veterans here.
