William Walker Alexander was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1869. He was an illustrator, printmaker, etcher, and bookplate maker. He studied in the atelier of George A. Reid and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia under Thomas Eakins. He was a founding member of the Art Student's League of Toronto
