Margaret Howard was an author of children’s stories, based in Toronto. Howard was an active member of the Canadian Authors’ Association (Toronto Branch) and served as President in 1934. Some of Howard’s personal letters of correspondence are included in archival collections at the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Another one of Howard’s personalized book plates is in the collection of the West Chicago Public Library District, "given by Leslie Victor Smith, Toronto Canada 3/16/28." The book plate has been digitized by the Illinois State Library and is accessible online in the Cornelia Neltnor Anthony and Frank D. Anthony Book Plate Collection. Leslie Victor Smith (1880-1952) was an artist who produced many bookplates throughout her career. For more information, see William Colgate, 1947. Smith’s work is also in the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Collection at the University of Toronto.
