Notes |
The Brockville Public Library (BPL) was officially formed in July 1895 out of the Brockville Mechanic's Institute (founded 1842). For some time before this official founding, the library existed alongside the Mechanic's Institute as the Brockville Library Association. In 1902 the BPL received a grant from Scottish-American industrialist Andrew Carnegie to build a new library, which was officially opened in 1904. The library was expanded in 1971 and again in 1994-6. The bookplate was rather heavily damaged ; the back has been repaired with small glued paper strips. On the back can also been seen the reverse image of the manuscript notes from bookplate BP MUR CAN I B7635e. Paper remnants indicate that bookplate B7635d was at one point glued on top of B7635e. This provides a valuable clue as to the history of the bookplates and the evolution of the institution. In ink on recto, indicating shelf number: '190 V.' In ink on recto, indicating accession number: '3776'
