Notes |
R. & C. Chalmers was a booksellers, stationers, and bookbinders based in Montreal operating in the mid nineteenth century. It is unknown when the firm was established or when it closed, but it operated as a bookseller and publisher at least between 1845-1848. The firm was located at No. 8 9 Great St. James Street. Among the books published by the firm are 'Recollections of a Convict and Miscellaneous Pieces' (1847) and 'Scenes in a Soldier's Life' (1848). An advertisement for the firm in the 1846 'Montreal Pocket Almanack and General Register' lists among the firms wares, plain and fancy stationery, blank account books, books plain or elegantly bound, cheap editions of new and popular works, bibles, prayer books, altars, and church services, and collection of plain and colored engravings and lithographs. A copy of this ex libris is also available in the Philippe Masson Ex Libris Collection at McGill University.
