Dr. Dallas E. Hinton was born in 1946 in London and moved to Vancouver in that same year. Ardith Hinton was born in 1945 in Vancouver. They married in 1969 and had one daughter, Nora, born in 1986. Both Dallas and Ardith studied and worked in the field of education. This bookplate design was formerly used by Arthur Coburn, Dallas's maternal grandfather. Dallas Hinton has been using the design since the 1970s. The Rare Books and Special Collections Library at the University of British Columbia has copies of both bookplates.
