Notes |
The Academy of Medicine in Toronto was a medical club from 1907'1992. Their library contained 4600 volumes of rare and current books when the organization was formed. The library was available to all medical practitioners in the province. In 1992, the contents of the library were given to the Toronto Hospital when the Academy disbanded. In February, 1936, the librarian of the Academy, Edna M. Poole, wrote a short article entitled 'Book-Plates' in the Bulletin of the Medical Library Association about the Academy's collection of medical bookplates. She did not mention the library's own bookplate, but it is possible that her interest sparked its creation. The Art Gallery of Ontario and McGill University's Rare Books and Special Collections have bookplates from the Library of the Academy of Medicine in their collections.
