Notes |
Nancy Stuart Reid was born in 1908 to Alexander T. Reid and Emily Fawcett. On June 16th 1927 she married Bruce Forbes Ross, a 28 year old sales manager in Guatemala City who was originally from Boston. At the time she lived at 30 South Dr., Toronto. UBC's Thomas Murray Bookplate Collection also includes another bookplate, owned by Alexander Fawcett Reid (likely Nancy's brother). This bookplate is an example of a naïve style of artwork, a style which is frequently used to represent children and children's pastimes and belongings as it does here. Alexander Fawcett Reid's bookplate has a similar style and it is likely that both bookplates were created for or by Nancy and Alexander while they were children, especially since this bookplate uses Nancy's birth name. The bookplate is likely printed on Byron Weston paper, possibly with a 'Canada' watermark.
