Notes |
Macdonald College was founded in 1905 in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in Québec, just outside of Montreal. The College was initially funded by William Macdonald, a Montreal tobacco manufacture and educational philanthropist, who once stated: 'I am not proud of my business, and that feeling, perhaps, has been the reason for my donations.' Until the 1930s Macdonald's coat of arms was incorporated into the college's arms ; the school's current and official coat of arms does not resemble the one depicted here. In 1972 Macdonald College became the Macdonald Campus of McGill University, and in 2002, a portion of the campus was sold to John Abbot College.
