George Wilbraham (1779-1852), resided at Delamere House and was an MP in the House of Commons for Cheshire South from 1779 to 1852. He married Anne Fortescue, a descendant of William the Conqueror and Mary Tudor. A painting with him in it entitled "The House of Commons, 1833" by Sir George Hayter is available online through the web site for The National Portrait Gallery. Wilbraham was an author and an avid book collector, and many of his bookplates are still attached to his books and are for sale, as are other personal items of his, including his own bookplate collection. Many of his speeches and campaign bulletins have been digitized and are also available online. He was also mentioned in a book (it is not clear whether it is fiction or non-fiction) by a neighbor, Frances Williams-Wynn, entitled "Diaries of a Lady of Quality from 1797 to 1844."
