Notes | This bookplate belongs to George Benson Strutt (1761-1841), son of Jedediah Strutt (1726-1797), a hosier and cotton spinner and inventor of the Derby rib machine. George Benson was educated at a school in Chesterfield kept by Thomas Astley, a Unitarian minister. He married Catherine Radford, daughter of Anthony Radford of Holbrook, and kept a home in Bridge House, Belper, Derbyshire, England from where he carried on his father's work by running the Mills at Milford and Belper. He was also responsible for managing the family's estates which by 1820 consisted of 1,450 acres on either side of the River Derwent.
