Notes |
This bookplate is found in H.W. Fitcham, "Artist and Engravers of British and American Bookplates," 1897 under "P.I.P. Sherburne". No information can be found on P.I.P. Sherburne, however, taking into account the difficulty of identifying the middle initial due to the font, a search for "P.J.P. Sherburne" uncovers an 1831 obituary in "The Gentleman's Magazine" which notes under deaths in the West Indies in April of that year: "At Berbice, P. J. P. Sherburne, esq. late of the Royals, only son of Joseph S. esq. of Bengal Civil Service." Berbice is a region of Guyana.
