A complete list of insurers will be found on pages 9 to 32. For purposes of
convenience, the present list is made up to June 30, 1976, so that it includes insurers
licensed since December 31, 1975, and shows the classes of insurance for which
each is licensed.
During the year, eight insurers ceased to transact business in the Province
while 25 new insurers were licensed. On analysis, the list shows that 126 companies
(exclusive of fraternal societies) were licensed for life insurance, 168 for fire insurance, and 86 for marine insurance. These cover only the major classes of insurance,
and it should be understood that the same company may be licensed, for example,
for fire, life, and marine insurance.
The annual statements of these companies incorporated by or under an Act
of the Legislature are set forth at length on pages 33 to 49.
The taxes collected on unlicensed insurance amount to $128,000.
The number of insurance agents' and salesmen's licences issued for the year
1975 is given below, together with a comparative table for the previous four years.
