THE MILK BOARD
ANNUAL REPORT
for the
YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31
1964

Sir,—We have the honour to transmit herewith, in accordance with section 56
of the Milk Industry Act, the Nineteenth Annual Report of the Milk Board under
that Act for the year ended December 31, 1964.

  Nineteenth Annual Report of the Milk Board
For the Year Ended December 31, 1964
This Report of the Milk Board is made in accordance with section 56 of the
Milk Industry Act and covers the calendar year ended December 31, 1964.
Tables giving up-to-date statistical information relative to the production and
utilization of qualifying milk, to accounting values for each class of qualifying milk,
to producer prices for qualifying milk, to sales of fresh fluid dairy products, and to
dairy-feed prices are appended hereto.
LEGISLATION
The Milk Industry Act Amendment Act, 1964, was passed at the 1964 Session
of the Legislature.
AREAS OF PRODUCTION
There are five defined areas of production under Part III of the Act. They
are the Vancouver, the Vancouver Island, the Kamloops-Okanagan, the East and
West Kootenay, and the Cariboo and Central British Columbia areas.
MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD
During the year Dr. Walton J. Anderson, Ph.D., resigned as a member of the
Board to accept an appointment with the Agricultural Economics Research Council
of Canada as Director of Research. His resignation was effective January 31, 1964.
Present members of the Board are Ernest C. Carr (Chairman) and John D.
Honeyman.;
BOARD MEETINGS
There were not any public hearings held during the year.
The Board met 17 times in its office to deal with matters of policy and administration. Numerous conferences were also held with producers, vendors, and other
interested parties to discuss matters pertaining to the production and marketing of
LICENSING
Under the provisions of General Order No. 33, two classes of licences are
issued by the Board. Vendors and milk jobbers are required to obtain a Class 1
licence, and producers a Class II licence. Both licences are issued for a period of
12 months, or portion thereof, ending on March 31st of the period in respect of
which they are issued. A summary of 1964/65 licences issued, Cancelled, and in
effect at December 31st follows:—
