REPORT OF THE BUSINESS DONE IN PURSUANCE OF THE "MUNICIPAL SUPERANNUATION ACT " DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 1941-42. Section 6.—Contributions amounting to $277,946.17 were made by 3,460 Municipal and School Board employees. Section 8.—Contributions credited to the various employers' accounts, in accordance with the provisions of this section, amounted to $403,590.01. Section 10.—The net requirements in the case of each employer were ascertained in the manner prescribed by this section, and the Minister of Finance paid to the Municipal Superannuation Fund cash amounting to $8,057.61 as provided under subsection (3) (a) of this section, and Certificates of Loan were issued to the amount of $382,116.91 in accordance with subsection (3) (c) of this section. Section 13.—Superannuation allowances were granted to 95 employees. Section 17.—Disability allowances were granted to 7 employees who had become totally and permanently disabled. Section 18.—Allowances were granted to dependents in the case of 14 employees who died while in service. Section 18 (3).—Refunds amounting to $2,607.72 were made in the case of 2 employees who died while still in service. Section 20.—Refunds amounting to $43,897.16 were made to 126 employees who left the service of their employer. Section 31.—Securities in the hands of the Trustees at this date are set out in Schedule 3 of this report. Section 36.—Included in this report is the Valuation Balance-sheet prepared by S. H. I certify that the accounts of the Commissioner and Trustees of the Municipal Superannuation Fund for the year ended 31st March, 1942, have been examined under my direction. Investments in guaranteed securities are stated on the Balance-sheet at $4,800,354.53, representing the original cost less amortization of premium or discount to 31st March, 1942. A summary of the securities held at Balance-sheet date is given on Schedule 3 herewith in which par values, original costs, and valuation on the Dominion Department of Insurance basis as at 2nd January, 1942, are also set out for information and reference. The liabilities in respect of Employees' Retirement Annuity Account and Employers' Service Pensions Accounts are stated at book value. Under the terms of section 36 (1) of the "Municipal Superannuation Act" an actuarial valuation of these liabilities was made as at 31st March, 1942. The Valuation Balance-sheet as at that date, certified by Mr. S. H. Pipe, Consulting Actuary, appears as Schedule 5 herewith. Subject to the foregoing remarks, I certify that the above Balance-sheet is in my opinion properly drawn up so as to exhibit a true and correct statement of the affairs of the Fund according to the best of my information and the explanations given to me and as shown by the books of the Fund.
