ANNUAL REPORT, 1938-39.
REPORT OP THE BUSINESS DONE IN PURSUANCE OF THE "TEACHERS'
PENSIONS ACT " DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 1938-39.
Section 3.—The total number of teachers contributing to the Teachers' Pensions Fund on
March 31st, 1939, was 4,129. In addition, 312 teachers who were temporarily unemployed
on March 31st, 1939, and therefore not actually contributors, still had amounts in the
Teachers' Pensions Fund.
Section 4.—On March 31st, 1939, 171 teachers throughout the Province were contributing
at a rate greater than 4 per cent., pursuant to the provisions of this section.
Section 6.—There were 12 contributors making special voluntary contributions as at
March 31st, 1939.
Section 8.—Applications were considered by the Teachers' Pensions Board and Orders
made for 1 contributor, under the provisions of this section.
Section 11.—Pursuant to the provisions of this section, the annual grant of $25,000 was
received from the Minister of Finance, this being the tenth and final payment.
Section 13 (a), (b).—During the period April 1st, 1938, to March 31st, 1939, pensions
were granted by the Teachers' Pensions Board to 19 teachers.
Section 16.—One teacher died, and an allowance was granted to the widow in accordance
with the provisions of this section.
Section 20.—Eight teachers died during the year, and refunds amounting to $2,661.24
were made to the legal representatives.
Section 21.—Refunds amounting to $72,083.06 were made to 267 teachers, who renounced
their rights pursuant to the provisions of this section.
Section 35.—Two allowances were granted pursuant to the provisions of this section.
