2 Ed. 7 Hydraulic Leases, Atlin District. 909
RETURN
To an Order of the House for certain particulars regarding Hydraulic Leases in the
Atlin District, upon Resolution by Mr. Stables on the 12th day of March, 1902.
EDWD. GAWLER PRIOR,
Minister of Mines.
Department of Mines,
17th April, 1902.
1. Number of hydraulic leases granted in the Atlin District since the 9th of August,
1901, 111.
2. Number of applications for hydraulic leases refused since the 9th of August, 1901, 6.
Reasons for refusal:—Until the protests received against the granting of the same have
been withdrawn, and until the land has been abandoned by placer miners. In one case,
because the application did not conform to the provisions of the "Placer Mining Act."
3. The amount of revenue derived from leases granted since 1st January, 1898, $23,140.
4. The number of leases cancelled since 1st January, 1898, 1.
5. No lay-overs have been granted, no provision in Act permitting same.
6. The number of extensions of time granted since 1st January, 1898, is 13, representing
94 leases. No revenue is derived from this source. The reason advanced in nearly all cases
has been to admit of negotiations for obtaining capital to work the properties being completed,
In the others, because owing to depth of snow on the ground it was impossible to make
accurate surveys.
7. No provision is made in the " Placer Mining Act " for the record of work done under
assessment conditions of leases. The department is therefore unable to give the information
asked for.
