60 Vict. Re Additional Fish Hatcheries. 435
PAPERS
Relative to the importance of establishing additional fish hatcheries in British
Columbia.
By Command.
JAMES BAKER,
Provincial Secretary.
Provincial Secretary's Office,
Sth February, 1897.
Extract from a Report of the Committee of the Honourable the Privy Council, approved by
His Excellency on the 21st October, 1896.
The Committee of the Privy Council have had under consideration a despatch, hereto
annexed, dated 2nd of April, 1896, from the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia,
covering a certified copy of an approved Minute of His Executive Council, embodying a
resolution passed by the Legislative Assembly of that Province, calling attention to the
importance of establishing additional fish hatcheries in British Columbia.
The Minister of Marine and Fisheries, to whom the matter was referred, states that as it
is of the highest importance that any new permanent fish hatcheries which may be established
in that Province should be built in the more suitable localities, he is engaged in obtaining full
information on the subject with a view to authorising the construction of two new hatcheries
on the Fraser and Skeena Rivers in time for operation next season, at such points as shall
ensure the greatest possible benefit to the fisheries, as well as meet with the approval of all
experienced and interested persons.
The Committee advise that a certified copy of this Minute, if approved, be forwarded to
the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia in answer to his despatch.
(Signed) John J. McGee,
Clerk of the Privy Council.
His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor of
British Columbia.
VICTORIA, B. c :
Printed by Richard Wolfenden, Printer to the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty.
1897.
