RETURN
To an Order of the House for a Return shewing, as near as practicable, the nature of
the balances due on surveyed lands, computed by the Honourable Finance Minister
at $420,000; whether such balances are due on purchases or pre-emptions, or
what proportion on each; the location of the lands, and the length of time these
balances have been owing. Also the nature of the balances duo on unsurveyed
lands, computed by the Honourable Finance Minister at $1,000,000 ; whether such
balances are due on purchases or pre-emptions, or what proportion on each; the
location of the lands, and the length of time these balances have been owing.

The $1,420,000, estimated by the Honourable the Finance Minister as the amount of
payments due on surveyed and unsurveyed Crown lands throughout the Province, is made up
as follows :—
A. Instalments  of purchase money due on surveyed  lands  recorded as
pre-emptions prior and subsequent to Confederation $ 270,000
B. Instalments  of  purchase  money due  on  surveyed  lands  (town lots,
suburban and country lands)  which were sold at various auction
sales since the 30th September, 1884       150,000
C. Instalments of purchase money due on unsurveyed lands recorded as
pre-emption claims during the past ten years    1,000,000
