52 Vict. Petition against Divisional Court Bill. 249
PETITION.
To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly oj British Columbia:
The petition of the British Columbia Board of Trade humbly sheweth:—
1. That whereas, your petitioners are advised that a Bill has been introduced into the
Legislative Assembly intituled " An Act respecting the Divisional Court," No. 27.
2. That Section 2 of said Act, being retrospective in its intentions, would, if enacted,
afford the means of re-opening matters long since settled by the Divisional Court of the
Supreme Court of British Columbia, which, in the opinion of your petitioners, would be a
gross injustice, and conducive to endless litigation.
3. That, in the opinion of your petitioners, retrospective legislation of the character
sought by this Act is pernicious and undesirable, and calculated to seriously affect the commercial interests of the Province.
Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that your Honourable House will refuse to
sanction the passage of the Act herein referred to.
And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, &e., &c.
Signed on behalf of the British Columbia Board of Trade, and signed with the Corporate
Seal, this 20th day of March, 1889.
ROBT. WARD,
[l.s.] President.
Wm. Monteith,
Secretary.
